Starting to feel a little more comfortable on the uprights again while I await the return of my Barcroft drive wheel. Wet but warmer this week. Spring feels and looks like it may finally arrive. I probably ought to ride the uprights for a week or two every few months to maintain some degree of adaptation.
During the last week I noticed the front V brakes on my Barcroft were thumping badly. I attributed it to mud and dirt buildup from the rain, but while cleaning the rim I discovered that it was instead splitting longitudinally along the rim in at least a couple of places. Velocity is covering the rim under warranty, but it is a pain, and Thankfully did not fail while riding or out on a rando ride. I bring a spare tire, but I draw the line at spare rims. besides I understand the folding variety just don't work very well.
Pretty unmotivated to ride this weekend, more 40 degree rain tomorrow though, so no escaping it. Did manage to run to the store before it started raining again.
Several rainy days this week, both going to work and coming home I've been passing a coyote curled up in the middle of various open fields in the same greenbelt area that a major bike path uses. I see coyotes pretty often around here, but this one appears to exhibit the same behavior and is always with in a mile or two of the same location and seems pretty used to people. I've passed within 10 yards of her and she just watches me go by. Today since it wasn't raining I tried to stop and take her picture, but that was too much and she started moving off as I dug the camera out of my pannier and a couple layers of plastic bags.
One of my permanent routes, CheeburgerCheeburger has had some road construction for over half a year now. Last Summer I road a small portion one Sunday afternoon looking for a detour that would allow people to avoid it. It rained lightly for most of the ride. Although I rode less than 30 miles, I enjoyed the time puttering around on my backup commuter bike, an old trek 750 hybrid.
Got up and left during the dark this morning eager to test out my new SON20R generator / lumotec cyo headlight combo. Very cold though, never got above 30 degrees for the ride, and my feet suffered, should have skipped the cleats. The generator worked very well. A slight hum, as the rear wheel (ie normal front wheel) is pretty near my head. I was going to meet some fellow LSR's in Celina for 70 mile ride to Whitesboro and back, but I was pretty cold, and moving pretty slow. I headed out with them, but peeled off a few miles in to take a look at some side roads and meander back in time to meet Becky and Sarah for lunch.
